MARINE SURVEY COST
Marine survey pricing is influenced by both the length of the vessel and the complexity of its onboard systems, equipment, and overall configuration. With the wide range of equipment and systems found on today’s boats, a single “per-foot” price does not accurately reflect the scope of every survey.
At SS Marine Surveying LLC, Pre-Purchase Surveys generally range from $25–$32 per foot, with the final fee determined by the vessel’s size, type, systems, installed equipment, and overall complexity. A minimum survey fee of $650 applies to all inspections and reduced rates may be available for Insurance and Appraisal Surveys.
Our surveys are intentionally thorough and highly detailed. A significant amount of time is devoted not only to the onboard inspection, but also to documenting findings, researching applicable standards and equipment, evaluating the vessel’s condition, and preparing a comprehensive report with detailed photographs and explanations. The goal is to provide the buyer with a clear and useful assessment of the vessel—not simply a checklist of observations.
Oil analysis is available upon request and is billed separately at $80 for one sample, or $60 per sample when multiple samples are taken in conjunction with a survey.
For inspections outside our normal service area, travel mileage is billed at the current IRS standard mileage rate, presently $0.76 per mile.

With more than two decades of hands-on boating experience, I understand the systems, structures, and maintenance challenges commonly encountered in recreational vessels. Every survey is conducted with attention to detail and documented through comprehensive reporting and photographs to help clients make informed decisions.
